Bayelsa United Football Club History
Bayelsa United Football Club is one of the notable football clubs in Nigeria that was founded in Yenagoa the capital city of Bayelsa State of Nigeria in the year 2000. It is one of the latest and well recognized Nigerian premier leagues that play in the top division of the country's premier league.
The club uses Yenagoa Township Stadium as their home ground for local football activities, training, other related matches and tournaments. They have as well played several matches in Oghara town of Delta State and Sapele Delta during the past years due to a heavy downpour that always made the pitch of their home stadium bad back. However, they returned permanently to their home ground after the renovation of the arena in the year 2014.
Bayelsa United FC, in spite of their position in the Nigerian Premier League table, was suspended from carrying on with their scheduled league in 2009 owing to some outstanding debts and salaries, and also the awful behaviour displayed by their fans after their match with Ocean Boys Football Club based in Brass Bayelsa State then.
Their first match with Warri Wolves FC on the 14th of June 2010 where they won promotion for the Nigerian Premiers League got them qualified for the 46th edition of Africa's premier club football tournament organized by the Confederation of African Football.
Their winning celebration was actually on a low tone due to the loss of life that was involved that same year when their then captain, Abel Tador was attacked and killed by armed robbers few hours after the football match.
So far, so good the club has made some recorded victories, shortcomings and relegations. Following one o their encounters in 2010, when they were relegated after they games in Kano and Bauchi in which they lost their three matches out of four with Wikki Tours FC and other clubs they played against. This incidence led them to an inferior rank in the Premiers League.
The club failed to participate in May 2011, during the annual Football Association Challenge Cup because they were seriously tormented by a financial dilemma that made them return to the second division in the National League table. They won back their position because they had to spot out their mistakes and as well make effective corrections.
Bayelsa United FC has been a wonderful team since their creation and they have been performing very well in the yearly knockout football competitions. In 2012, they won back excellent position in the Nigerian national Premier League super tournament and were placed next to their opponents Nembe City Football Club in the league table.
